Homeowners primarily choose our energy-efficient window styles like double hung windows because of the energy savings. For some, it may come as a surprise that our replacement windows also have noise-reducing properties. Today, Renewal by Andersen® of Wyoming shares an overview of how our windows help make your home quieter.
How Window Noise Reduction Works
The insulation in energy-efficient windows naturally reduces vibration, giving them inherent sound-reducing properties. We have improved upon these features by adding a polyvinyl butyral (PVB) interlayer on our High Performance™ Low-E4® glass. PVB is a type of resin that reinforces shatterproof glass like automobile windshields. The difference in density between PVB and impact-resistant window glass diffuses soundwaves, which effectively cuts down the noise that gets into the room.
STC Rating
Whatever your preferred window style is – sliding or casement window, among others – you can choose the one that has the right level of noise reduction. Look for a label that indicates its Sound Transition Class (STC) Rating. Like energy performance ratings, STC ratings are presented as values from 18 to 38. A higher rating means better noise reduction. Renewal by Andersen replacement windows are typically rated at 34 STC, which puts our replacement windows among the quietest in the market?
Why Invest In Noise-Reducing Windows?
There are many reasons why you should consider investing in noise-reducing windows:
You Often Sleep In – Whether you work on the graveyard shift or if you simply want the option of sleeping in on weekends, noise-reducing windows are a must for your bedroom. Pair them with blackout curtains for a long, uninterrupted and healthy amount of sleep.
You Work From Home – If you are one of the many workers who had to switch to working from home, a quiet environment will let you focus on your work. Noise-reducing windows will let you do things like taking customer service calls without being interrupted by street noises.
You’re Caring for an Infant – Your little one can sleep peacefully without getting irritated by outdoor noises.
You Create Content With Sound – If you’re a musician or if you create podcasts and similar content, you’ll sound so much better with audio recorded in a quiet room.
