Different Windows for Different Home Designs

Sliding Window

A sliding window is a type of window that has one or more glass panels that slide horizontally to open or close. Because most sliding windows today feature large, continuous glass panels, a typical sliding window can easily work with contemporary home designs featuring minimal details.

Double Hung Window

Double hung windows are basically sliding windows, except with the panels moving vertically instead of horizontally. The sashes or panels of a double hung window can be tilted for easier cleaning and maintenance, and levers keep the panels from falling. Because of their design, double hung windows are popular among more traditional home designs.

Fixed Window

Fixed windows are windows that feature no moving panels. Because they appear to put the outside view in a fixed frame, they are also commonly known as picture windows. Large picture windows with sleek frames are commonly seen in contemporary home designs, but they also have their place in traditional home styles.

Casement Window

A casement window features moving panels that swing inward or outward because of hinges attached to the sides of the frame. Casement windows are a staple in traditional home designs that feature wide angles and have an emphasis on horizontal lines. Victorian homes may feature casement windows with elaborate patterns on their frames while casement windows for contemporary homes usually have thin frames and very little decorations.
