How to Reduce the Mess During Window Replacement

Window replacement will make a mess in your home. The spread of dust and debris on your furniture, shelves and other belongings is inevitable. But with the following tips, you can reduce the clutter during your project.

Keep Doors Closed

Your old windows will produce plenty of dust and debris once they are removed. Keep the dust in the work area by always closing the doors to other rooms. Containing the dust in a smaller area will also help the workers clean up faster after the installation is done.

Use Drop Sheets

Seal off the project area, especially if you’re replacing large windows. Drop sheets will reduce gaps and seal off the entire area. Your contractor can do this for you before the project begins in each room needing window replacement.

Blow Off the Dust

You can reduce the accumulated dust and debris indoors by blowing the dust out of the work area. During wind-free days, use an opening to blow the dust outdoors.

Remove Furniture and Accessories

Your furniture and accessories will collect dust and debris from the window replacement. Keep your pillows, bedsheets, lamps, computers and other items away from the work area. If they can’t be removed from the location, use plastic or fabric to cover them.

Keep Vents Covered

Protect your HVAC system from dust infiltration by closing or covering the vents in rooms where the window installers are currently working. You can consult your window contractor for the best ways to keep the vents temporarily covered.
