Consider These Things When Replacing a Patio Door

It’s so easy to get really excited when installing your new patio doors. And, when you’re that excited, you could cut corners just to enjoy your new unit right away. This is a bad idea. Here’s why.

Space Considerations

Most doors, including patio doors, operate in two ways: by swinging (either inward or outward) or sliding. The former needs floor clearance while the latter needs twice the wall width to accommodate the door, especially when it is open.

When you’re replacing your patio doors, the first thing to note is how much space you have for your patio doors. If you have hinged, swinging doors, note that they operate like a casement window, so make sure they won’t hit anything when you open them. For sliding patio doors, make sure you have enough space on the adjacent wall to open them.

Material Considerations

Patio door frames also come in a variety of materials. Wooden frames look beautiful, but they are easily damaged and prone to moisture and temperature variances. This is especially tur for sliding doors, which need precise measurements, or they’ll get stuck in the track.

Installer Considerations

Finally, one of the most important things to think about is the installer. At Renewal by Andersen®, we are an end-to-end window expert, which means we inspect, measure, manufacture and install all our products. You can be sure that you’ll get only the patio door that’s custom-made for you, tagged with a unique ID that lets us troubleshoot your unit easily and quickly.
